I’ll be teaching a LIVE Workout Tomorrow in The Hollywood Trainer Club  Saturday September 5th Total Body Chisel Camp at 9am PT/12noon ET/ 5pm London Time! Grilled Shrimp Fajitas with Mango

National Fajita Day is August 18th, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than with this delicious Grilled Shrimp Fajitas with Mango recipe!

The sweet & savory flavors of Grilled Shrimp Fajitas topped with mangos are mouthwatering delicious! Served in a warm tortilla or in a lettuce wrap to lower caloric intake, this quick and easy dish can be prepared for lunch or dinner. Did you know that mangos are always in season and available fresh year-round? So, you can make this recipe at any time!

Grilled Shrimp Fajitas with Mango

Yields: 2 servings.

Ingredients

21-25 medium raw shrimp 

1 tbsp olive oil

2 bell peppers (different colors) sliced into strips

1/2 large red onion sliced into strips

2 ripe mangos

4 tortillas (preferably corn) or 4 Lettuce Cups (Romaine or Butter Lettuce)

2 limes sliced

Marinade:

1/4 cup lime juice

1/4 cup orange juice

1 tbsp olive oil

2 garlic cloves minced

2 tbsp of your favorite fajita seasoning blend

Instructions

1. Mix together the marinade ingredients and add the shrimp. Toss to coat, cover and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

2. Cut mango into slices.

3. In a large pan over high heat, add oil and roast the bell peppers and onions in the oil until slightly limp. Set aside.

4. Cook Shrimp: Grill or Stovetop

Grill – Preheat grill to 300°F. Spray grill with cooking spray and grill shrimp, 1 to 2 minutes per side depending on size. Transfer to a bowl.

Stovetop – In a large grilling skillet over medium high heat add shrimp and cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side depending on size. Transfer to a bowl.

5. Add the mango and fajita seasoning to the shrimp.

6. Add the peppers and onions to the skillet.

7. Serve grilled shrimp and vegetables with warm tortillas or lettuce cups.  Top with remaining mangos, pico de gallo and guacamole (optional) and sliced limes

Sweet and Tangy Pickled Mangos

Sweet and tangy pickled mangos are a delicious addition to salads, vegetable & grain bowls, fish tacos, sandwiches, and more. Of course, it also makes for a refreshing snack enjoyed straight from the jar. 

Mangos are always in season and available fresh year round. Mangos are a must have because they are a satisfying superfruit packed with nutrients, especially Vitamin C –  a 3/4 cup serving in half of what you need for the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water 
  • 1/2 cup Rice Vinegar 
  • 1/4 cup sugar 
  • 2 teaspoons Himalayan salt 
  • 3 unripe mangoes, peeled and sliced

Yields: 2 jars of pickled mangos

Instructions

  1. Cut bottom of mango to balance on cutting board. Peel skin off of mango with vegetable peeler. Slice mango close to seed on each side. Cut mango into slices


2. Combine water, vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan over high heat, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. 
3. Cool to room temperature, about 1 hour. 
4.  Place mango slices in a clean quart-size glass jar.

5. Pour vinegar mixture over mango slices and refrigerate. 
6. Seal with lid, and refrigerate 8 to 12 hours before serving.


If you want to spice things up try this variation!

Spicy Pickled Mangos Recipe (note, quantities to taste based on your preferences)

  • Mango pieces cut 1”x 1/4” strips or 1/2’ cubes
  • Fresh dill stems and sprigs
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Rice Wine Vinegar
  • Fresh Garlic Minced
  • Dried Dill
  • Tri Colored peppercorns
  • Coriander ground
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Cumin

Jurnee called on Jeanette in September of 2018 to help her prepare for her role as Black Canary. They worked together for four to five months leading up to the taping of the movie. Jurnee’s training regimen consisted of strength training, cardio, plyometrics, kickboxing, yoga & meditation.

Many of us have been fans of Jurnee Smollett for over 20 years as soon as she showed up on screen in Eve’s Bayou she immediately won us over with her performance as 10 year old Eve. 

She has continued her career in roles in The Great Debaters, True Blood, Friday Night Lights and Roll Bounce just to name a few. 

Most recently as the super-heroine Black Canary in the box office smash Birds of Prey: And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harlequin.  


In addition to being an incredible actress Jurnee is also a wife, mother, auntie, sister and friend.

5 Tips to Help You Stay Positive

1. Start & End Your Day with Gratitude
Mediate or write down 5 Things you are grateful for and feel the positive energy resonate through your body. Examples: your health, you’re alive, your breath, friends & family, sunshine on your skin

2. Make a List
Make a list of all the things you really want to complete and refer to your list. A great time to improve your home and to make warm comfortable spaces, clean out the old stuff you haven’t used in years, donate it to charity and make fresh spaces. Candles, plants, throws, blankets and pillows can all add comfort to your rooms.

3.  Make a Schedule
Have a schedule for your day so you don’t get pulled down a negative road. Be productive. Make a list of all the things you want to get done and start scheduling them in your day. 

Example Schedule:
8am Workout
9am Make breakfast
10am Work on new project (clean closet, read a new book)
12pm Mid-day walk and lunch
1pm Work on Project B (new work goal or something creative and fun)
3pm Organize finances
4pm Afternoon stretch
5pm Cook dinner
6pm One hour of news /press conferences (limit news intake to one set time a day to avoid thinking about negative news all day long)
7pm Sunset walk
8pm Schedule a FaceTime call with friends

4. Dance, Dance, Dance!
Dance Break / Tik Tok / Listen and Dance to Uplifting Positive Music. It’s impossible to be mad and dance at the same time. If you don’t believe me then give it a try. Turn on some music and dance and you’ll immediately feel better in the first 30 seconds.

5. Exercise
Get in your daily workout. Even 5-10minutes of movement can help you release endorphins so you can boost your spirits.

10 Day Ab Blast Starts Saturday Feb. 22nd

To help you get through some of the February blues & to kick your body up a gear we are going to do a round of our 10Day Ab Blast Challenge starting this coming Saturday February 22nd! The purpose of this challenge is to encourage you to commit to 10 days in a row of total body workouts with an extra emphasis on the abs! We have incorporated  Cardio, Sculpting, Exercise Ball, Pilates, Running, Sprint Intervals, Kickboxing, Yoga, Strength Training and Sports Drills to challenge your core for maximum results. By using various methods of training that use your abdominal muscles in all the planes of motion the body will be consistently challenged over the next 10 days to help you achieve incredible results. Everyone can commit to 10 Days, it’s only 10 Days! All of our workouts offer instruction for beginners to advance so everyone is welcome. Let’s get started!

Of course you have to eat healthy to burn excess fat off of your belly. This healthy meal plan is low in sugar and balanced with protein, healthy carbohydrates and healthy fat to give your body the nutrients needed to function at your best, burn fat and feel great! 

All of the recipes in this meal plan are in The Hollywood Trainer Club. To simplify your meal prepping process, start by just picking two or three of your favorite breakfast lunch and dinner meals to get you through the week. It’s perfectly fine to repeat your favorite meals two or three times in a week. Do what works for you but let’s keep it healthy.

1. Make the choice to see the positive in every situation this holiday. Don’t stress over the small stuff. If you look for the bad you will have a bad experience. If you look for the good you will have a good experience. The choice is yours but Santa’s Elves and Jeanette’s Merry Fitness Team encourage you to look for the good!

2. Hydrate! Drink plenty of water before your meal. We tend to eat larger portion sizes when dehydrated.

3. If you’re going out for drinks, order water or iced tea for the first round. By the time you finish, your friends may have already finished two or three cocktails, while you’ve saved yourself 500 to 600 calories. And sometimes you’ll be so into the entertainment of everyone else, you might not even want a drink by then!

4. Make it a family affair. Get active with your family members by doing a fun workout together like Cardio Kickboxing or a fun activity like ice skating or even just a walk around the neighborhood.

5. Eat your veggies first. Don’t dive right into carbs! Start with a green salad followed by protein, and then go for another vegetable. Save a treat-size portion of carbohydrates for last. When you have stuffing or mac ‘n’ cheese, have a half cup or full cup — no more.

Our goal is to keep you moving right up to Thanksgiving because as you know on average Americans gain 5-10lbs over the holidays. We also want to keep you in good spirits, happy, healthy and low stress and there’s nothing better than a daily dose of endorphins from your daily workouts! I’m looking forward to motivating everyone through this Fall Challenge! All the full workouts with instructions for ALL levels are in the club in our Virtual Gym and the fee to use the club is $20 a month with no long term commitment. 30 Day Ab Blast Challenge Begins April 1st

Our 30 DAY AB CHALLENGE challenge starts Monday, April 1st, in The Hollywood Trainer Club! Let’s start off April with a bang! Grab a friend & join us!  The purpose of this challenge is to encourage you to commit to 30 days of total body workouts with an extra emphasis on the abs! We have incorporated  Cardio, Sculpting, Exercise Ball, Pilates, Running, Sprint Intervals, Kickboxing, Yoga, Strength Training and Sports Drills to challenge your core for maximum results. By using various methods of training that use your abdominal muscles in all the planes of motion the body will be consistently challenged over the next 30 days to help you achieve incredible results. All of our workouts offer instruction for beginners to advance so everyone is welcome. There are 5 workouts per week so you can do all 5 in a row or plan them in your week to fit your schedule! Let’s get started! 


Here’s the breakdown:

Week 1 FIRE UP ABS: The goal is to get you to focus on engaging the core. We will review the muscles of the core, rectus abdominus (the six pack), internal and external obliques, serratus anterior, transverse abdominus (the deep muscle that act as a corset pulling in your low belly and supporting your lower back), erector spinae muscles (muscles which line the spine) and lumbar muscles (muscles of the lower back). We will also focus on all the movements of the core, flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation. The goal is to make sure you know how to engage all of the core muscles so you feel them working through all of the planes of motion. You would be surprised how often people think they are doing core exercises and they do not feel their core working at all because they are not properly engaging their core muscles.

Week 2 AB SMASH: Now that you’ve learned the movements and muscle groups of the core and you FEEL them working it’s time to INCREASE THE INTENSITY so that you get more results!

Week 3 CARDIO ABS: You can’t get those lean sexy abs without burning off the layer of fat that might be on top of them. The only way to burn body fat is by having a calorie negative at the end of the day so adding cardio to your program and healthy eating in proper portion sizes will help you maximize your calorie burn. We need more calories going out and less calories coming in to maximize your fat burning. The goal is to have a calorie negative of -500 to -1000 by the end of the day so you can burn 1-2lbs per week. All the workouts this week will incorporate cardio to help you increase your calorie burn so you can maximize your fat burning! We will also be giving you nutrition tips to keep you on track and don’t forget your healthy meal plans and healthy recipes are already in The Hollywood Trainer Club just click on “Meals” and “Meal Calendar” to schedule your healthy meals for the week! Proper meal planning is always a win!

Week 4 BLAST THE BELLY FAT: Yes it’s time to take it up another level and add both Strength Training and Ball Exercises to your weekly workouts to maximize your belly fat burning results! The combination of Core Focused Ball ExercisesCardio and Strength Training will increase your calorie burn while focusing on the core/abdominal muscles. By taking away the stability of the floor and performing your abdominal/core exercises on the unstable exercise ball your ab/core muscles will work harder and you will recruit and fire more muscle fibers!

Week 5 POWER ABS: The core has both fast twitch and slow twitch muscles fibers. Power Abs is all about recruiting the fast twitch muscle fibers with power moves to help you maximize your fat burning and give you a stronger more functional core. A strong, flexible & functional core will also decrease your risk of injury while enjoying your other sports & daily activities.

Week 6 ULTIMATE 6-PACK: It’s time to take everything we have learned and increase the FUN FACTOR!
